Testing Results
IMPORTANT! Sites requesting testing must have approval from the appropriate state or local health department before submitting specimens. Approval must be sent to NPHL by email at or by calling (402) 559-9444.

A Special Microbiology Form must accompany the specimens. Some tests require additional forms and patient history. This will be listed below when applicable. When requested, testing will not be performed without all required information.

  Test: Fungus Culture, Dermatophyte 
  Synonym: Skin, hair or nails for fungal culture, Dermatophyte culture 
  Method: Standard reference procedure for fungal dermatophyte culture 
  Availability: Daily; preliminary report at 2 weeks, final report at 4 weeks 
  Specimen: Hair, nails, or skin scrapings 
  Collection Device: Sterile container or clean envelope 
  Storage/Transport: Ambient 
  Unacceptable: Non-sterile or leaking container

  Reference Interval: No fungi isolated 
  Reportable Disease:  
  Comments: Indicate suspected organism(s) and specimen site on the test request form. Additional patient history may be helpful; include the patient's occupation, history of travel or residence abroad, and any animal contact. Notification of positive results for mold is provided.
