Testing Results
IMPORTANT! Sites requesting testing must have approval from the appropriate state or local health department before submitting specimens. Approval must be sent to NPHL by email at nphl@unmc.edu or by calling (402) 559-9444.

A Special Microbiology Form must accompany the specimens. Some tests require additional forms and patient history. This will be listed below when applicable. When requested, testing will not be performed without all required information.

  Test: Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex Genotyping 
  Synonym: Tuberculosis genotyping 
  Method: PCR genotyping with optional RFLP analysis 
  Availability: Monday - Friday 
  Specimen: Pure isolate of M. tuberculosis 
  Collection Device: Broth (MGIT, Bactec, etc.) in screw-top vial with o-ring, fastened and secured with adhesive tape, or LJ slant with viable growth, closed and secured with adhesive tape 
  Volume: 2 mL for broth 
  Storage/Transport: Ambient, lids must be fastened and secured with adhesive tape 
  Unacceptable:  
  Specimen Stability: Stable at ambient 
  Reference Interval: By report from CDC 
  Reportable Disease:  
  Comments: This test is perfromed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NPHL Special Microbiology Requisition is required. Site submitting specimens must be approved by the Epidemiology Program at DHHS Regulation and Licensure. Please call NPHL for clarification (402-559-2440).
