• Contact the NPHL emergency pager 402.888.5588 for guidance if Yersinia pestis cannot be ruled out in the laboratory
• All manipulations of suspected Yersinia pestis should be performed safely in the Biosafety Cabinet
• Perform only required LRN protocol to rule out and refer potentially hazardous pathogens according to LRN-B guidlines

• Category A packaging according to DOT and IATA Category A UN2814 guidlines
• Category A packages can only be transported by a Category A certified courier

• Report positive Yersinia pestis immediately to local or state health department. Refer to Nebraska DHHS Title 173, Communicable Diseases.
