Stool or rectal swab from infants with visible stoolations and required 2 patient identifiers on specimen container and requisition forms

Fresh stool collected without preservative.  Do not use transport media, formalin, PVA or SAF.
Rectal swabs are acceptable from infants only. Do not use wire-shafted swabs.
Specimen Labeling: Test subject to CLIA regul

1.0 mL stool minimum.

Prior to and during shipment: Refrigerate 4-8°C or Frozen
Shipping instructions, including specimen-handling requirements during transport:
All screw-top tubes must be sealed with parafilm or tape.  Vacutainer tubes do not require parafilm or tape to seal.
Package and ship as UN3373 Category B, Biological Substance. Place in biohazard bag with absorbent material. Refrigerated specimens should be shipped on frozen gel-packs. Frozen specimens should be shipped on dry ice.  Transport by NPHL ground courier (NPHL brown shipper not required). If courier not available, contact Client Services (866) 290-1406 to arrange pickup.

Stable at Refrigerated temperature 2-8°C for 3 days, Frozen up to 1 week.

Positive results are reported to local or state health department. Refer to Nebraska DHHS Title 173, Communicable Diseases

Supplemental Forms Required – Nulirt packing list or NPHL Test Order Form (completed in entirety) must accompany the specimen.

Virus is available for testing on the Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel (GIP). If ordered in combination with the GIP it is considered a duplicate test.
