Testing Results
IMPORTANT! Sites requesting testing must have approval from the appropriate state or local health department before submitting specimens. Approval must be sent to NPHL by email at or by calling (402) 559-9444.

A Special Microbiology Form must accompany the specimens. Some tests require additional forms and patient history. This will be listed below when applicable. When requested, testing will not be performed without all required information.

  Test: West Nile Virus Antibody IgG & IgM, Serum 
  Synonym: West Nile Antibodies, Serum 
  Method: Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay 
  Availability: Varies by season.
In-season testing is performed on Monday and Wednesday with results for specimens received by 0800 reported the next day by 1700. For off-season testing results will be be available within 14 days of receipt of specimen in lab. 
  Specimen: Blood 
  Collection Device: 6.0 mL Gold (SST) tube 
  Volume: 2.0 mL serum (Min: 1.0 mL) 
  Storage/Transport: Separate serum from cells ASAP and refrigerate. Transport and store refrigerated within 48 hours. If transport to lab > 48 hours, pour off serum into clean tube and freeze. Freezing specimen as soon as possible is strongly recommended. 
  Unacceptable: Improperly stored specimens 
  Specimen Stability: Refrigerated, 8 hours; frozen, 1 month 
  Reference Interval: IgM: Negative
IgG: Negative

  Comments: Testing only available as a panel (IgG and IgM) for serum
